Sale of Land to Sheepmen

Charles Deady, surveyor-general, is doing a lot of hustling getting out patents for the foreign sheepmen and cattlemen, says the Carson News. Under the act of the legislature it is necessary to own land in Nevada in order to graze cattle or sheep or else pay a county tax on each head brought in. So many head per acre is allowed. In order to get past. the Idaho and Utah sheepmen have been taking up Nevada lands. The location makes no difference. Anyone owning in Lincoln county can place so many sheep or cattle in some other county.

Since the law went into effect over ten thousand acres of state land have been sold through the land office. and in most instances patents have been taken out.
