Mary Brown, a fat black lady of probably five and forty, was on Tuesday last committed for stealing a goose of Mr. Ferriss's. The goose was found unplucked, taken out of a tun of geese that luckily being dead, could not distinguish the depredator. On finding the loss of their relative, the geese set up a cackle for a few moments but returned was equally certain as to its identity. Meanwhile, the watchman saw a company consisting of three or four black men and one woman who had no bottle at the boat, came running to a cart near by at which she threw something. Suspecting all was not right he took the party to the watch house, where they found the carcase and part of the goose of Mr. Ferriss's, on which the thief M. Brown had cast her tender regards. Her ladyship was extremely indignant at the charge, and bellowed out to the watchman before the commit in the following terms— Did you see me take the goose? The watchman was positive. Can you say before God and man I took the goose —The watchman was again positive. The case, therefore came on, no meat Mr. something—when last being? as dead goose picked?
