Full Text

The Pittsburgh Morning Post thus coolly claims the 'Whig Tariff of Abominations.'

'Prosperity has returned to our country—Thousands of workmen have procured employment in consequence of the adoption of a tariff that was carried by Democratic votes. What will Father Ritchie, the Democratic Review, Washington Globe, the N. Y. Evening Post and Martin Van Buren say to this? What becomes of the solemn declaration of the latter that he 'is opposed to the present tariff as well in regard to the principle on which it is founded, as to detail?' What becomes of the ex President's seven column letter to the Indiana State Committee, written to convince the reader that all impost duties, whether high or low, are equivalent to a direct tax to that amount upon the capital and labor of the People?'

Tell us ye thinking Locos' what is therein the nature of a tax—an enormous tax upon capital and labor, to make 'prosperity return to our country?' Is this the way to give 'employment to thousands of workmen' lately suffering cruel privations?—Buffalo Journal.
