FIRE!!
On Saturday morning last, about half after one o'clock, a fire broke out in Robert Bolling's tobacco warehouse at the upper end of Old street, which, by the time the citizens had assembled at the place, was too much enveloped in flames to admit of extinction-Their attention, therefore, was immediately turned towards saving the tobacco, and we are happy to learn, that out of about twelve hundred hogsheads the public loss is not more than two hundred and eighty. The supposition is, that some base mortal designedly set fire to this house.
The conduct of the black people upon this occasion, deserves the highest praise. As if prompted by the influence of self interest, they were seen to strain every nerve for the sake of their masters. Query. Will not a subscription be raised to reward and encourage such of these men as particularly distinguished themselves!
