Fire Damages Apartment House

Fire gutted the ground floor of a three-story brick apartment house in Elkton, early Monday morning, driving several families out into the street. No one was injured.

Flames were discovered in the apartment of Dr. A. D. Lopes, in the Felton House, about 3 o'clock.

Dr. Lopes had left for Wilmington about midnight. The blaze was believed to have started from a fire in the fireplace.

Firemen fought for more than an hour to bring the flames under control.

Upper stories of the apartment house were damaged by smoke and water.

The loss is partly covered by insurance. Elkton firemen brought two engines to the scene.
