Ex-Governor Henry A. Wise, of Virginia, was invited to deliver the address at the tournament to take place at Leonardtown, Md., November 15th, to assist the trustees of the Point Lookout Cemetery, but writes that he will be unable to accept the invitation in consequence of important professional engagements. In his letter the ex-Governor remarks: "If our liberties are now departed forever, the truth will have to be told in the epitaphs of the Confederate soldiers—that they were the last to fight for them."
