Daring Villany.—A very daring attempt to commit a robbery and murder was made last evening, a little after sun-set, near the four mile stone on the Lancaster road. The Rev. John C. Reisnor, a minister of the Methodist society, a resident of Lebanon county in this state, was travelling from this City, homeward, he was overtaken by two men on foot, the one a middle aged man. the other a young man, about 21 years of age. They both seized the bridle, and demanded his money. The older man presented a sharp knife to the breast of the traveller, who struck him with his umbrella, and he immediately received two wounds in his right hand with the knife. He was dragged from his horse, and told to give up his money, He replied that he had none. They insisted that he had, said they would kill him if he did not give it up, and commenced beating him over the head and shoulders. He cried out murder; upon which, the young man holding him, the old villain mounted the unfortunate traveller's mare, and fled precipitately towards the city, and the other then ran into the adjoining woods. Upon hearing the cry of murder, two sons of Edward George, at work in a field not far distant, hastened to the spot, and brought the wounded preacher to the Columbus inn on the Lancaster road. We are happy to state that his wounds are not mortal. It is a fortunate circumstance, that having failed to receive 800 dollars in the city, he had no money in his saddle bags.
