Capital Meeting at Charleston.

The citizens of Kanawha county met at their Court House on Saturday, March 20th, to complete arrangements for redeeming the pledges of their representatives in the Legislature on the Capital question and to provide for the accommodation of the Legislature, State officers and such other persons as the seat of Government may draw to their town. Hon. H. C. McWhorter presided and Mr. W. S. Lardley acted as Secretary.

The Charleston Journal, in addition to a full report of the meeting, has the following summary:

The committee appointed at a former meeting to collect facts, and suggest the best and most feasible means of securing the permanent location of the Capital at this place, through their chairman, Colonel Smith, reported several resolutions, urging the immediate raising by subscription or otherwise, of the one hundred thousand dollars pledged by our Representatives, and the erection of a suitable building for the use of the Legislature and Executive offices; and also the building of one other hotel for the better accommodation of persons visiting Charleston. The resolutions provide for the appointment of committees to solicit subscriptions in both town and country.

The meeting returned the thanks of the community to our Representatives, and after remarks by several parties the meeting adjourned to meet on the 20th day of June, at the Court House.

Among the resolutions of the meeting we find the following which was offered by Hon. G. Slack and unanimously adopted:

Whereas, It is important that more intimate commercial relations be established between the different portions of the State: therefore,

Resolved, That this meeting recommend to the merchants and business men of Wheeling and Charleston to establish as early as practicable a weekly line of steamers to ply between those cities.

It would be well for the business men of this city to consider carefully the proposition embodied in the foregoing, so as to be ready to co-operate heartily with the Charleston people, who will doubtless soon open a correspondence on the subject.
