Thursday.—The introduction of testimony in the John Wiede case was resumed and concluded a little after ten o'clock. After the testimony closed counsel for the state and the defense agreed to submit the case without argument, and special Judge Alexander instructed the sheriff to take charge of the jury until half-past one o'clock in order that he might have time to prepare his charges, after which the jury retired, and in a few minutes returned with a verdict of not guilty. It could not have done otherwise under the testimony. After the acquittal of the defendant, John Wiede, the cases against Carl Konkel, Gottlieb Muench, Rudolph and Carl Roessler and Ferdinand Wiede, the other parties indicted under the same charge, were continued for the term. Two motions were made for new trials before Judge Garrett. One was in the case of Judge Williams, charged with the theft of a bale of cotton, and the other was in the case of Wm. Leake, implicated in the killing of a negro woman at a colored church festival in Chappell Hill. The first motion was overruled, and the other was granted.

Monday.—This was the day set apart for the trial of Carl Roessler, indicted for complicity in the hanging of Jack Walker in the postoaks, but, as previously stated, the case was continued, and, therefore there was no regular business to be transacted. The jury has been discharged for the week. The case against Arch Hughes is the only remaining murder case on the docket of which some kind of disposition has not been made, and it is set for trial on the 14th instant. All of the remaining criminal cases are postponed until the seventh week of the term, and the special venires summoned for this week are excused from attending.
