Captain Merrill of the ship Arethusa, has arrived at Baltimore, in thirty-eight days from St. Salvador. From the information brought by Captain M. it appears that previously to the departure of Lord Cochrane, he had been ordered by the Emperor of Brazil to repair to Rio, but declined the honour of obeying his master, shipped a quantity of cotton to Maranham and made his escape in a frigate. In consequence of this conduct, the Emperor had struck his name from the Brazilian Navy, and deprived him of his newly acquired titles, such as Marquis of Maranham, &c. &c. and appointed Commodore Jewett, Admiral of the fleet.
