William Scot was taken up on suspicion of stealing a silver Tankard and Can from Mr. Henry Abbot, and on examination before a magistrate, confessed the same, and was committed to the gaol in Concord. He appears to be a young pale faced man, of a good education, bright genius and quick wit, and a ready lively invention; writes a good hand, and (as he says) he has been a Clerk to the exchequer, and was brought up a musician to play on the Bassoon, &c. It is probable he is one of those creatures of the Commissioners which swarm in the sea-port towns, and has strayed away into the inland parts, till pursuing the same thing, but in a different channel. It is remarkable how they incorporate with the clergy, for not long since one of these vermin went to a minister on Sabbath morning and eat breakfast with him, and after attended prayers in the study, and while the priest was speaking for eternal riches, the poor pimp was seeking temporal wealth, which he found, took, and carried away, consisting of several Gold and Stone Rings, which perhaps he thought were superfluous furniture for a study, but on viewing them afterwards found people's names engraved on them, so he sent them back again to the parson by one of his parishioners.
