A Coroner's inquest was held on the 18th ult. in Henrico county, Va. over the body of a free man of color, of the name of Isaac Reed, who it appears, came to his death in consequence of being severely lashed with a cowhide, and having a rope tied about his arms, extending across the throat, to the lobe of each ear, leaving a strong impression on the neck, and causing the tongue, which was much swollen, to project beyond the teeth. The persons concerned in this affair were Wm. Grace, S. H. Whipple and D. Henderson; and the injury was inflicted at the house of the former. They have all been committed to prison.
