Full Text

It is rumoured that sixteen, twenty, thirty, or more persons in the town of Eastham, are subpoenaed by Josiah Myrick, Innholder and deputy sheriff, to appear before the grand inquest at the court of sessions to be holden at Barnstable, the last Tuesday of September next.

Query. What can this mighty parade mean? Perhaps there is a complaint entered against the Mob that met at a certain Tavern in Eastham, on the first Monday night of March last, armed with Whale Lances, rusty Swords, Hatchets and Guns with Bayonets fixt, setting a guard on the King's high way, firing and parading, threatening to demolish houses and to shed blood; thereby putting some in fear.

But why such a multitude? In the mouth of two or three, every word shall be established.

Ay, says the dirty Deputy, But we are in quest of an old Tar Bucket. May we have the good luck to find it! and find it full!
