We learn from Savannah, in Georgia, that on the 4th ult. a company of military officers being convened at the Coffee-house to celebrate the day, a contention arose between Col. Gunn, and Capt. Welshers, which, caning, horse-whipping, shooting, and challenging, not proving effectual, has terminated in a formal trial, and verdict, by a battalion court-martial, at which Major Shick presided. The trial was founded upon the special charges of Col. Gunn, vs. Capt. Welshers for behaving unlike an officer or a gentleman on the 4th of July last, and for similar behavior, in a dispute with James Wilson, previous to that date. To these charges the defendant plead not guilty. The court was held, by adjournments, from the 12th to the 16th of July, and the merits of the cause fully investigated, the parties appearing their own council, when it was determined by the court, that Capt. Welshers, was not guilty of the first, but guilty of the second charge, whereupon it was recommended, that the commanding officer of the brigade, in general orders, do severely reprimand him.

—It is worthy observation, that this agitation was produced from the circumstance of Capt. Welshers's attempting to sing an anti-American song without the particular licence of Col. Gunn, who presided at the festival.
