Duties of Town Auditors.—Mr. Editor :—

Permit me through your columns to call the attention of the Town Auditors to the Act approved Nov. 21st, 1860, entitled "An Act in amendment of section sixty-eight of chapter fifteen of the Compiled Statutes, in relation to Town Auditors," the section thus amended reads, "The Auditors shall, immediately previous to the annual meeting in each year, examine and adjust the accounts of the treasurer and all other town officers, and report the accounts so settled, with the items thereof, to the town at said annual meeting." As this act is undoubtedly designed as a safeguard to the town treasury, Auditors should insist upon settling with all of the town officers, and all the officers should present their accounts to them for settlement.
