Collision on the P. & C. Railroad--
Mail Agent Killed and Body Burned.

From the Cumberland News we learn that a frightful collision occurred on Friday, on the Pittsburg & Connellsville Railroad, 69 miles west of Cumberland, between the mail train west and a freight train east.

The freight was 40 minutes out of time, owing to the miscalculation or defective time of a green conductor.

The locomotives reared up in deadly embrace.

The mail car and an oyster car telescoped, crushing to death Moses Collins, the mail agent. The baggage man and news boy escaped as by a miracle.

One brakeman had a leg broken, and other employees were more or less injured.

The engineers and firemen saved themselves by jumping. The stove in the mail car set fire to the wreck, and the mail, baggage and express freight (oyster) cars, with mails, baggage and express freight, were burned up, Mr. Collins' body being consumed with the rest.

Mr. Collins was a man 54 years old, and a resident of Fayette county. He had recently been appointed postmaster at Connellsville, and was running his last trip as agent.

Nothing was known of the accident in Cumberland till Saturday, when passengers arriving brought the news.
