Richmond, Feb. 16.—Gen. Lee's General Order, No. 1, assuming command of the Confederate armies, contains the following passage:
"Deeply impressed with the difficulties and responsibilities of this position, I humbly invoke the guidance of Almighty God that I may be enabled to perform my whole duty, and rely for success upon the courage and fortitude of the arms, sustained by the patriotism and firmness of the people, confident that their united efforts, under Heaven's blessing, will secure peace and independence."
