Wednesday, Jan. 23.
Mr. Ephes reported a bill to amend an act relative to the salaries of clerks in the several departments. Twice read and referred to the committee of the whole for to-morrow.
Mr. Root reported a bill for the relief of Lieut. Col. William Dent Beall. Twice read and referred to the committee of the whole for Friday next.
Mr. M'Kim presented the petition of certain custom house officers at Baltimore, praying remuneration in certain cases.--- Referred to the committee of commerce and manufactures. He also presented the petition of sundry mechanics, manufacturers, &c. of Baltimore, praying the renewal of the United States Bank charter.
Mr. M'Kee submitted the memorial of Wm. Lambert relative to a first meridian of Washington. Referred to a select committee of five.
A bill was received from the Senate to provide for the surveying of the waters along the northern confines of the U. S. Read twice, and referred to the committee of the whole for Tuesday next. Also, from the Senate, a bill to incorporate the Union Bank of Georgetown. Twice read and referred.
The House then took up the U States Bank charter bill.
