TWO WIFE BEATERS
GET 60 DAYS EACH

Justice of Peace Hands Out Justice in Cases of Two Men
From Frontier.

Two wife-beaters were put away where no dogs can bite them this week, when Joe Kovich and Tom Lux both Frontier miners, were sentenced to serve 60 days each in the county jail by Justice of the Peace McAllister, following their being found guilty of using their fists upon their wives.

Kovich was arrested last Friday on complaint of his wife, who bore a bruised face in mute testimony of what had happened. He was brought into court at once, and on being found guilty the 60-day sentence was imposed. There was no fine. Kovich has been in court before, once for making moonshine, which he explained was being made to be used on his sore feet. He was a patient in the hospital for many months some time ago, following a mine accident, during which time his loyal wife not only managed to keep the family together, but earned money to give him extra comforts while he lay on a bed of pain.

Tom Lux was brought into court Monday afternoon, charged with beating his former wife, Mary Uras, nearly to death. Mrs. Uras is his divorced wife, and lengthy testimony went to show that Tom had sent for her, and they began quarreling over money matters. Mrs. Uras showed all too plainly just how she had been beaten, both eyes blackened and a lengthy cut just below one showed that a knife had been used. She had been in the hospital several days following this beating.

At the conclusion of the testimony the judge handed Tom a 60-day jolt, with no fine. Both Tom and his former wife also were placed under bonds of $100 each to keep the peace.

The fidelity of Mrs. Kovich to her erring spouse has been shown here this week. She has implored the officials to set her husband at liberty, and visits him each day at the jail, and makes the excuse that Joe never would have done it if he hadn't been drinking. In the meantime Joe is threatening to his wife that he will kill himself if she doesn't get him out of jail. The wife is suffering more mental anguish over the 60-day sentence than is her husband.
