Memphis, Tenn., Oct. 6.-An Appeal-Avalanche special from Nashville, Tenn., says: The news from Pulaski is of an alarming nature. General Weaver says he will certainly go to Pulaski and speak there Saturday, and that he has had no cancelling of his appointments. Letters from the most conservative people in Pulaski and Giles county urge strongly that Weaver be dissuaded from coming, as there are grave fears of a serious battle if he appears there. Every utterance will be criticised and one imprudent word may lead to his death. General Weaver's course during the war made him extremely obnoxious to the people and his bitter language about his accusers has created intense passion. He asserts that he will hurl defiance in the face of his enemies. The threat has been openly made that he will be killed if he uses insulting language, but third party men from all over the county, including many old confederate soldiers are arming and preparing to go to Pulaski, swearing that they will protect him in speaking and defend him against assault. Both sides are determined and neither will yield if it comes to blows. A bloody fight will follow the firing of a single gun. There are those who believe that General Weaver may use such temperate language as to forestall any trouble, but even then the tension and strong feeling would in all likelihood lead to trouble.
Every effort is being made by the state democratic committee to secure a quiet hearing for Weaver and to prevent any violent outbreak. but reports received here say that no argument will avail; that if General Weaver utters an imprudent word he will be killed, and that all the conservative people in Pulaski cannot prevent it. They urge that the only safety lies in successfully urging Weaver not to fill his appointments. The state democratic committee is much disturbed over the situation.
