Won for Men
On NYO&W
NEW YORK - The Brotherhood won pay increases for its members on New York, Ontario & Western Railway in a recent agreement signed during a drive to obtain standard rates of pay for classes represented by the BRT on the property.
Assistant to the President W. L. Reed assisted General Chairman J. W. Flanagan and his committee in winning the increases.
The pact signed June 24 between Ferdinand J. Sieghardt, trustee of the NYO&W, and the BRT provides:
"1. Pursuant to the terms and conditions of the Railway Labor Act as amended and subject to due authorization by the U. S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and subject further to the terms and conditions hereinafter specified, the Trustee agrees to pay to the Trainmen and the latter agree to accept an hourly increase of seven and one-half cents above the then current basic rates of pay of said employes, effective from May 25, 1951 and continuing thereafter to and terminating on Aug. 25, 1952. Nothing herein contained shall preclude negotiations between the undersigned parties for a continuance of said increase beyond Aug. 25, 1951, but subject nevertheless to the further order of the U. S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, to be applied for on or after Oct. 1, 1953.
"2. It is understood and agreed that payment of the said seven and one-half cents for the three months' period above specified shall not constitute the recognition of any obligation for the payment of any further or additional increase for said period nor recognition of any obligation to continue the payment of said seven and one-half cents from or after Aug. 25, 1951; and further that the Trustee in his discretion may accrue said increase or any part thereof as to which during said three months' period he may find himself without adequate funds to meet his operating expenses.
"3. Upon the same terms and conditions or otherwise as may be imposed by the order of said Court, the Trustee agrees to make payment to the said employes of an hourly increase of 10 cents in the current basic rates of pay of the employes represented by said Brotherhood, effective July 1, 1953 and continuing thereafter to and terminating Sept. 30, 1953."
