WILBERFORCE, OHIO—Rabbi Selwyn Ruslander told the 24th annual International Day observers recently at Central State College: Peace can only be achieved by laying the groundwork for peace in society and the power that is present in the atom need not destroy the future of the youth but it can enrich, ennoble and dignify it. As dependent on how we approach our creator as masters or as slaves.
Students and teachers coming from Ohio colleges considering the theme "Youth and the Challenge of the Atomic Age" concluded that relationships, maturity, a change of ideas and a change of heart are necessary to turn the atomic age into an age of peace.
Central State College students presented a pageant entitled "Common Bonds of International Unity" as a highlight of the afternoon period preceding the 4 o'clock tea. Performing were Lillian Brown, Ella Patton, Juanita Forrest, Nancy Hawkins, Sandra Shields, Nina McGoodwin, Barbara Mack, Maryvonne Jenkins and students from the creative dance classes.
Rabbi Ruslander speaking on the subject "Youth and the Challenge of the Atomic Age" addressed approximately 1,000 students and teachers. He concluded "We can create values for survival, a common ethic creates a climate of opinion which can transcend all iron barriers. We must be conscious of the new responsibility imposed upon all who possess power; the sore which confronts us can be one of tremendous opportunity or one of untold sorrow and tragedy. If it's the latter, we have deserved no better fate."
