Discharge of Reuben M. Whitney.—By a resort to the "previous question," late on Monday evening, it was resolved, (102 to 70) "That it is inexpedient to prosecute further the inquiry into the alleged contempt of R. M. Whitney, against the authority of this House, and that said Whitney be now discharged from custody."— He was discharged accordingly. Mr. Wise, when his name was called, said, "Mr. Speaker, I will not vote on this question, until I ascertain whether I am discharged from this prosecution."
