Diplomatick.---It is stated that Major-General Henry Dearborn, of Boston, has been nominated by the President, as Plenipotentiary Extraordinary to Portugal; but it is not stated that the Senate has concurred in the nomination. As that body has of late become a little refractory, it is not improbable that a majority will not "advise and consent to the appointment," although the ci-devant General should be re-nominated. The outfit would be $9000, and the annual salary $9000 more. We cannot perceive the importance of sending any minister to Portugal at present; but if the government are determined to create a sinecure, and support a diplomatick pensioner, let them select a man who needs such a place, and who has "done the state some service." The Advocate of this morning hints, that there is a place near Lisbon, possessing a fine wholesome air, where the Lake fever probably never prevails; and here, it is true, our plenipotentiary might very pleasantly repose, forgetting his laurels amid groves of oranges.
