A bird of a very extraordinary nature called the Hurcill by natives of the Coromandel coast has been brought to Europe on board the Nottingham East Indiaman. It walks upright, taller than a middle sized man, wings extended measure about 15 feet, colour a mixture of black and white. Though a bird of prey doing great mischief to Indians by carrying off lambs, poultry, etc., they never destroy it due to superstitious notions that spirits of deceased Bramins inhabit them via transmigration of souls.
