Rejoicing over the birth of a baby girl, born Wednesday, December 24.

Mrs. Randall Avery is very sick at her home in Tacoma.

Clara Avery was a week-end guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gates Avery.

Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig Johnson and family of South Bay were Christmas guests at the August Johnson home.

Mrs. Alice Michel of Tacoma visited her mother a few days last week.

E. J. Bjorkman began work at the Garrison camp last Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Rogers were guests of his mother and brothers over the week-end.

BLACK RIVER VALLEY

Robert Austin, after spending Christmas vacation with his parents, returned Friday to Pullman, where he is attending the State College.

Little June Johnston, who was reported seriously ill of typhoid fever, is said to be a very little better.

Lester Hunter of Dryad spent Christmas with his brother Earl of Gate.

The dance at the Gate clubhouse Saturday night was a grand success financially.

The music by the fine jazzers would be hard to beat.

Harold Crass is quite sick at present with a gathering in his head.

Hope Richardson, who has been sick for some time, is reported as being some better.

Mrs. Ethel Roles and children of Raymond spent several days during Christmas vacation in Gate at the home of Mrs. Ed Cross.

Mrs. Pearl Darling went to Hoquiam last Friday, where she visited with her sister and family. Mrs. William Harrison.

Jerry Cross and his famous dog Turk scoured the wildwood at Monohour ranch Sunday on a coon hunt, returning home with two large coons.

Mrs. Ralph Parish of Tacoma, after spending several days in Centralia and Gate returned home one day last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Parish entertained at dinner Christmas. Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Parish and son Claud, Mr. and Mrs. O. Cross and son Jerry, also some young friends.

Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Gaisell were guests of Mrs. Preston Jackson at a 6 o'clock dinner last Sunday.

Frank Pilcher and family of Hoquiam spent several days in Gate last week visiting friends and relatives.

Forest Willett is now able to walk on crutches after a long siege of illness.

PLEASANT GLADE

Supervisor Houghton and S. H. Westover have been working on the roads in this vicinity with the grader, which has made a vast improvement and is much appreciated by the traveling public.

R. B. Rowe has received word of his wife's safe arrival at Boone, Iowa, where she was called last week by the news of her father's serious illness.

Pleasant Glade and South Bay Granges will hold a joint installation of officers for the coming year, Saturday evening, January 3, at Pleasant Glade Grange hall. Pomona Master-elect O. E. Ferguson of Brighton Park Grange, will conduct the ceremony, and also put on the work of the third and fourth degrees for a class of eight who are joining Pleasant Glade Grange.

It is earnestly hoped that all members of the two Granges will make an effort to be present. Refreshments will be served after the meeting.

Dr. and Mrs. Ray Baumgarten of Seattle were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Pierce O'Connor over Christmas.

Mr. G. O. Windspole is visiting friends in Seattle.

Mr. and Mrs. C. Cruson spent the holidays with relatives in Shelton.

Mr. H. Wages spent the week-end with friends in Tacoma.

Mr. and Mrs. E. McClellan motored down Sound Sunday.

Mr. Henry Meyer of West Olympia visited old-time friends in this neighborhood Tuesday.

Miss Mabel Wages was an Olympia visitor over Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Comstock entertained relatives from Olympia during Christmas week.

Mr. Milner McLane and son Robert were down-Sound visitors Tuesday.

Klass and John Mekkes motored to Tacoma Tuesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Lee are visiting relatives at Yakima.

Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Shannon and daughter Nelda were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Milner McLane.

Miss Grace Michael is spending her vacation with her parents in Olympia.

Mr. Phillip Daubel was an Olympia visitor Monday.
