First Annual Convention Gets Underway in Chicago - Proposals
CHICAGO, Oct. 12.—The American Veterans of World War II, comprised solely of men and women who served in the war just ended, opened its first annual convention today.
Presiding over the meeting was National Commander Elmo Keel, veteran of the China-Burma-India theatre and now a student at the Washington University in St. Louis.
Delegates from 136 posts in 36 states were expected to attend the three-day meeting.
Proposals slated to be introduced include simplification of the G1 Bill of Rights to facilitate loans to veterans; demobilization, veterans' housing, /peacetime conscription, equal representation on the Veterans Administration, bonus, labor-management relations, hospitalization and tax exemption.
