the Herald on Tennessee Platform.

By way of showing the views of the northern monied people, we copy the following from the New York Herald :

There seems to be a generous rivalry among the Western and Southwestern democrats in inflation and repudiation. The celebrated "Ohio platform," on which Senator Thurman has, to the general grief of his judicious friends, planted himself, stirred up first the Missouri democrats, who, to use their vernacular, "went it one better ;" then came Arkansas, then Louisiana, and now Tennessee, which, in the same picturesque and appropriate language, "sweeps the board." The democrats of Tennessee in convention assembled demand not only the repeal of the Resumption act, the abolition of national banks and the unlimited remonetization of silver—that is mere child's play to these patriots. They require also that the national debt shall be paid off at the rate which the bonds brought during the war : that all foreign silver coins shall be made receivable here, and shall be recoined by the government as soon as possible; and that while silver is the cheaper metal it shall be used exclusively to pay the creditors of the government. Finally, they demand a "readjustment" of the State debt, and until that is arranged decline to pay any further interest on it.

With one exception this is a pretty complete platform. They forgot to nominate Kearney for the Presidency. But they have time enough left to repair this singular omission.

Do they really imagine that they are going to carry the country with such sentiments? Can they not see that they split their own party to pieces when they adopt such a platform? The country is certainly tired of the republican party, but it is not so tired of it but that it would retain it in power for another quarter of a century rather than trust itself to such men as made this platform. Like Kearney in California, these Tennessee democrats are "pooling the risks" and gathering together the ignorance, vice and barbarism of the country. But that plan is as sure of failure everywhere as it was in California. We notice that the Louisiana inflation and repudiation democratic platform already begins to bear fruit. There is a call for a Republican State Convention and there will be a strong movement in the State for honest currency and honest government. The American people are not thieves. But that is what these Tennessee terrorists would make them.
