PROBABLY A MURDER.

Chinese Stabbing on Ranch Near Florin.

A deadly cutting affray occurred on the ranch of Thomas Taylor, near Florin, Wednesday evening, between two Chinese farm hands. They got into a quarrel over a trifling matter and came to blows. One of them, known about the ranch as "Jim," was getting a little the worst of the battle, when he suddenly whipped out a long knife and jabbed it into his countryman's left side, after which he slashed him across the cheek. The knife-wielder then left the place immediately, and all search for him proved of no avail.

News was sent to this city to look out for the bloodthirsty "Jim," as it was believed that he made for this place. The police were given a description of him, and about 8 o'clock officers Harris and Carroll nabbed a Mongol in Chinatown who tallied with the description to a dot. He gave the name of Lin Kong, and stoutly maintained that he "no sabee" the whole business.

The police believe they have the right man, however, and will hold him until parties come over from Florin to identify him.

Sheriff McMullen went over to Florin yesterday to investigate the matter, but did not succeed in gathering much more than is given above. "Jim's" victim is in a very precarious condition from the thrust in the side. and it is not believed that he will survive it.
