Vanishing formality makes Hallowe'en one of the best times of the year to give a party, according to Ruth Current of State College.
Because Hallowe'en has no age limit, youngsters and oldsters alike can join in on this traditional fun day.
Decorations for a party should include owls, black cats, witches moons, and pumpkins cut from orange and black paper. Then to add to these, there should be real pumpkins, cornstalks, squash, and autumn leaves.
For ghostly effects Miss Current advises using Jack-o-lanterns, silhouettes of cats, bats, witches, scarecrows, and owls. A spider web in a corner of the room made of silver Christmas cord is effective.
Careful attention must be given to lighting, as much of the Hallowe'en atmosphere depends on it. There should be an abundance of Jack-o-lanterns, and all lights should be dimmed with red and orange crepe paper.
Among the games that can be played at the party, the State home agent suggests bobbing for apples, lucky peanuts, and fortune-telling, all typical Hallowe'en games.
A dramatic climax to the party may be supplied with an appropriate ghost story. All lights, except one blue-shaded bulb, should be turned out while one member of the party reads or tells a gruesome tale.
With the approach of midnight, a simple spread is provided for hungry guests. Tradition calls for cider and doughnuts, but sandwiches and coffee, pumpkin pie with whipped cream or ginger bread with coffee or cider may be served. Nuts, apples, or popcorn may be added to the list of refreshments.
