Atlanta football fans will witness their second big intersectional grid classics on Saturday, October 7 at 2:00 p.m. in Herndon Stadium when the daring Maroon Tigers of Morehouse College take on the courageous Pirates of Hampton Institute, Hampton, Virginia. The Pirates rank among the top teams in the powerful CIAA. Morehouse College holds the edge over Hampton in the current series. Two years ago Morehouse tied Hampton Institute 7-7 in Atlanta's Herndon Stadium. Last year, a powerful Morehouse eleven met the Hampton Pirates in the famous Shrine Bowl, Norfolk, Virginia, and squeezed by them 12-7. Coach Duke Foster probably will use nine Atlanta boys in his starting line up. They are: Robert Hall and James Middlebrooks, ends; tackles; Fred Harper and Willie Smith, center.
MOREHOUSE BACKFIELD COLORFUL COMBINATION
Morehouse College will field a colorful backfield combination. At quarterback will be Isiah Coats, a smooth ball handler who earned a berth on the All SIAC team during his freshman year on the Old Red Hill. Wee Willie Jackson, LaGrange, Georgia, will operate from the left halfback position while Taft McCoy, Atlanta, will run from right half. At fullback will be Alfonsa Buddy Crutch, a sensational ground gainer from Chattanooga, Tenn.
The Hampton Pirates will bring an experienced team to Atlanta. The Pirates are big, rough and tough. They boast of top team speed; they are well balanced; they have plenty of poise and football know-how. They will come to Atlanta seeking to revenge last year's defeat.
On Friday night, September 13, the Maroon Tigers will play Alabama State College in Herndon Stadium, Atlanta. The kick-off has been set for 7:30 p.m.
