U.S. SECONDARY BOYCOTT BAN SEEN: A threat that Congress might pass new legislation banning secondary boycotts has been made by Karl Mundt (R-S.D.), a member of the Senate Committee to Investigate Improper Activities in Labor-Management Relations, better known as the McClellan Committee.
Mundt told the Wisconsin Manufacturers Association that if allegations involving the United Automobile Workers in their strike against the Kohler Company were true concerning application of the boycott, he would favor such legislation.
'The Taft-Hartley Act provisions relation to boycotts have no effectiveness,' the Senator said.
He said such legislation probably would be drawn up early next year.
Cheered enthusiastically by the manufacturers, Mundt lashed out at organized labor on several fronts and called for a number of restrictions of labor activity.
The South Dakotan closed his address by urging all manufacturers to support their political party fully. He did not specify which party the employers should back, but he guessed that there were no New Dealers present 'unless they manufacture red ink or aspirin.'
