WOMEN LEAP FROM WINDOW TO ESCAPE FIRE, MISS NET

BALTIMORE, Md., Dec. 16. (U.P.) —A five-alarm fire enveloped the Thomas H. O'Connor paper storage house today, took the lives of three persons, injured 20 employes and firemen and destroyed the four-story building.

Four women employes leaped from the third floor of the building toward a fire net, missed the net and were crushed on the pavement. They are expected to die.

The three known dead worked on the fourth floor of the building. The four floors were stacked with paper, and a few minutes after the fire started on the first floor the whole structure was ablaze.

A fire wagon racing to the fire crashed into a police traffic box and the officer on duty is believed to have been killed.

More than 100 persons were employed in the storage plant.
