A SUNDAY SCRIMMAGE,
Lively Use of a Bungstarter—A Good Deal of Beer and a Few Broken Heads.

On Sunday last there was a lively skirmish on board the canal-boat anchored a mile or so above the Aqueduct Bridge. This boat is fitted up as a beer saloon and restaurant, and forms a sort of a half-way house for boating parties visiting Little Falls. About three o'clock Sunday afternoon a boat containing six men swung alongside the floating bar-room, and the crew disembarked and proceeded to stow away a liberal allowance of the exhilarating fluids dispensed thereon. After getting warmed up a dispute arose in regard to a pointer dog and the proprietor and his assistant were assaulted by all six of the boat's crew. The peripatetic publican proved himself "a very jovial little man" in the melee that followed. Arming himself with a bung-starter he laid about with such hearty good will that the party returned to their boat not haste, thoroughly demoralized. One of the visitors received a welt in the jaw that gave his head a decidedly gibbous appearance. Another had a patch of hair and hide lifted from his cranium, and several others were somewhat battered and bruised. From their personal appearance yesterday it can be inferred that there are better places to raise a muss than the canal-boat beer saloon.
