Portuguese Refugees.

The brig King Brothers, from Madeira June 24th, landed at New York on Wednesday morning about sixty Portuguese, who have been compelled to leave their native island by religious persecution. About two years ago there was considerable excitement on the island. A religious persecution followed, and in a short time some peasant families, numbering one or two hundred persons, arrived at New York in a destitute condition. Some philanthropic gentlemen became interested in their behalf, and finally established them as a colony in Illinois. Accessions have been made to the colony from time to time, both by way of New York and New Orleans, and they are said to be thriving. The company which has just arrived are to be forwarded to Illinois immediately. A majority of them are women and children.
