Large crowds turned out to witness the inauguration day ceremonies of the newly completed Naan-to-Beersheba railway line, which was constructed with the assistance of investment capital derived from the sale of State of Israel Development Bonds. Spanning a distance of more than 40 miles, the new railroad connects the agricultural areas which surround Naan in the north with the mining and agricultural center of Beersheba in the Negev. Shown above in Beersheba is the first Diesel train to travel between both points.
