Deathly Ill in 'Frisco,
But Doctors Say Improvement Noted.

San Francisco, July 29.-President Harding arrived in San Francisco this morning, somewhat improved, but still weak from the ptomaine poison attack which caused great suffering all the way on the trip from Seattle.

The Yosemite Park trip had to be canceled, and on orders from his physician the President went to bed as soon as he reached the Palace Hotel, under instructions to give himself up entirely to rest. The crab eaten by the President were procured at Cordova, and were served to him aboard the Henderson Thursday night. A number of other members of the party were sick and, as now believed, from the same cause.

California Program Canceled.

San Francisco, July 30.-Dr. Sawyer last midnight, issued a bulletin on the President's condition, resulting from an attack of ptomaine poisoning, in which he said new symptoms had arisen. indicating complication, and leading to the calling of a consultation of physicians. This was followed by a formal statement by Harding, in which he announced the cancellation of his "entire California program."

To Be Rushed to Washington.

San Francisco, July 30.-President Harding will be rushed back to Washington as soon as he recovers from his present illness sufficiently to travel, probably in two weeks.

Harding is a sick man. Four physicians participating in consultation concluded their meeting early today without issuing any statement, although Dr. Sawyer had previously announced that a bulletin would be made public and that the four physicians would make a personal statement. The consultants were Dr. Sawyer, Dr. Work, Dr. Ray Lyman Wilbur, president of Stanford University, head of the American Medical Association, and Dr. Charles M. Cooper, of Stanford University, a heart specialist.

President Says Feeling Better.

San Francisco, July 31.-"The best night, comparatively, since he has been ill." Sawyer said in a statement made at 8 o'clock this morning.

"Conditions seem to warrant the statement that apparently he has gotten into clear sailing," said Sawyer.

The President said this morning that he would like to look at the news of the day, and was permitted to read the morning papers, filled with accounts of his illness.

A second bulletin, issued at 10 a. m., says:

"Temperature, 100; pulse, 120; respiration, 50, angular.
