The Deerfield Valley company of Wilmington has bought from the Glastenbury Mining and Railroad company some 12,000 acres of timber land located in the town of Glastenbury, most of it in the extreme eastern part of the town near the summit of the Green mountains.
It is understood that the price paid was about $1 per acre. One of the principal owners of the property was Gov. John G. McCullough.
The property is mostly covered with spruce, but there is considerable hard wood scattered through it. A large portion of it is second growth. The new owners already have a large force of men in the woods cutting and drawing the logs to the Deerfield river in which they will be floated to the mill at Wilmington on the breaking up of the river in the spring.
F. H. Wright, who has the contract to get out 3,000,000 feet of logs for the Tudor mill in Pine Valley on the Green mountains has 60 men, and a dozen horses at work on the job and does not anticipate any difficulty in carrying it out. The logs go to the Tudor mill and a number of thousand feet are already on the clearing near the mill. All of the lumber is contracted for to one of the print mills in North Adams.
