CABBAGING CIGARS.

Five Thousand Cigars Stolen from the Texas & Pacific Depot in Broad Daylight.

One of the boldest thefts ever perpetrated in this city was that at the Texas & Pacific depot last Saturday. In broad daylight, about 8 o'clock in the afternoon, a case of five thousand cigars was taken out of the depot and spirited away. How it was done, or by whom, is not known, for not the slightest trace is to be had, no one having seen such a box leave the building. Some one of the employees are nearly always in the freight department, and are never absent but for a few minutes at a time, and how the audacious theft was carried out is a mystery. The matter has been kept quiet with the hope that the police might gain some clue, but so far they are as much in the dark as ever. They were manufactured in the Lehigh district of Pennsylvania and at factory No. 6, and were tied with a red ribbon in packages of ten each, there being one hundred to the box, and were branded "Millican & Grant's 'Stinkers'"—a queer name for a cigar. They were consigned to these parties, who were doing business at Weatherford. The thief or thieves, for there must have been more than one to handle the box, which weighed two hundred pounds, cannot hope to dispose of the goods in this section without detection. Mr. Fosdick, the agent, will pay a reward of $25 for the recovery of the goods.
