Willing to Take His Chances.

[Cleveland Leader.]

A curious matrimonial case is reported from the town of Poland. A farmer named Newton lost his wife by death two years ago. He became lonesome, and being unable to read or write induced a friend to advertise for a wife. Fourteen replies were received, but as each respondent asked for money to purchase a trousseau or to pay the expenses of the journey to his home, he rejected them all. A week ago Saturday he was informed by his friend that a suitable candidate would arrive by train the same evening. He met her at the station, drove with her to a squire's office and in 30 minutes from the time they first met they were man and wife. The groom says he married his first wife after having seen her twice, and thinks because he lived peaceably with her, there will be no difficulty between himself and number two. His case illustrates the axiom that nothing is impossible for a man to accomplish when he invokes the aid of the press.
