Boise—Idaho county assessors will be asked to cooperate with the secretary of state's office in the campaign to see that all automobiles are either licensed or taxed as personal property. it was announced by F. A. Jeter. secretary of state.
Just as soon as January 1 is rung in all assessors in the state will be informed that all cars for which licenses have not been procured or for which application for licenses have made, are subject to a personal property tax in accordance with law.
In the past, the secretary says. the assessors have contended that their assessing was all done before the expiration of the time limit for procuring licenses and therefore they could not assess cars which were not licensed.
"This year," Mr. Jeter says. "the time limit is January 1. This has always been the time limit. and all cars which are not licensed or for which application for license has not been made on that date, are subject to a personal property tax.
"People have stopped me on the street." he continued. "to ask when the law giving them until March 15 to procure a license, was changed. There never was any such law. All cars are required to be equipped with new license plates January 1."
