Full Text
First story. A hall for a reception parlor, and six rooms for refectories and kitchens.
Second story. A large exhibition room, 47 feet by 45, and four class rooms. The whole of this story is so arranged by means of folding doors as to be converted, on extraordinary occasions, into a grand exhibition room, the entire extent of the building.
Third story. This story is to be occupied by dormitories and chambers.
Fourth story. This story is divided into a capacious room for an infirmary, and by chambers for the attending Sisters.
The garret will also contain sleeping apartments. The front of the building on G street, now completed, is ornamented with a tasteful cornice, supported by six brick pilasters with marble caps, resting on a belting course of marble. It is well lighted with numerous windows, the sills and lintels of which are also of marble. The brickwork of the Asylum is executed by J. & W. McCullom; the carpenter's work by Mr. P. Gallant; and the manner in which the work thus far has been done redounds much to their credit as skillful mechanics. The whole building is under the able superintendence of Captain Thomas Carbery, who has given his services gratuitously to the construction of this "home for the orphan."
