FAIRBANKS, Alaska, Jan. 19.—On the opening of the Fourth War Loan drive in Fairbanks yesterday morning, Fairbanks exceeded the Series E quota of $165,000 by $5,000, Leslie Nerland, in charge of the drive announced.
Fairbanks is believed to be the first community under the American flag to exceed the quota so soon.
After buying more than $5,000 in excess of the Series E quota by 9 o'clock yesterday morning, citizens bought over $50,000 more during the remainder of the day.
Fairbanks' quota for all classes of the Fourth War Loan bonds is $400,000. Nerland said only Series E bonds will be sold during the campaign in order to make up the total of $400,000.
The population of Fairbanks is only 4,000.
