Full Text

In the name of suffering humanity and the peace, quiet and dignity of the town of Alexandria, we enter our solemn protest against the music, singing, noise, confusion and mean whisky-ebullitions with which we are cursed almost every night in the week, by a formidable band of Nigger Minstrels, whose "head centre" hails from the classic Village of Pineville. Will not some one of the various, "powers that be" take the matter in hand and abate the accursed nuisance or limit them to one night in the week, and let that night be known in advance, that those desiring some rest may emigrate a few miles in the country. Surely the town authorities, the Parish officials, the State dignitaries, the Military, the Bureau or "Civil Rights" William if he has arrived here yet, have some show of authority in the matter and can and will relieve us of what we complain.
