COMMERCIAL STUDENTS
TAKE HONORS IN CONTEST

Nine Seward students of the high school commercial classes took top honors in the second annual contest conducted in 13 territorial schools.

The contest, suggested by Mrs. Hazel Muir, Seward commercial instructor, last year included only six schools. Ketchikan High was the winner of the first contest. This year every school in the Territory with commercial classes participated with the exception of Anchorage and Palmer.

Seward High students placed as follows:

In Novice Shorthand Audrey Denton and Mary Ann Salit placed first as a team with average of 109, scoring 116 and 102 respectively. Juneau made second in this class, with Ketchikan and Sitka tied for third.

Typewriting I, 10 minute test, Carol Trevethan and Anna Hewlett, scoring 56.7 and 54.76 with team average of 55.73, brought another first place for Seward. Ketchikan was second and Fairbanks third.

Typewriting I, one-minute accuracy dash, Anna Hewlett and Carol Trevethan, team average 67.2. Seward first. Juneau second, and Kodiak third.

In Bookkeeping Seward placed third. Gail Jacobs with 105 and Billy Anrig with 109 turned in a team average of 107. Ketchikan took first place in this class with a three-man team average of 113.67. Cordova placed second.

Typewriting II, 10-minute test, JoAnn Milroy and Janet Hendricks as a team placed second with a score of 49.98. Cordova was first with a score of 50.71. Ketchikan third.
