Full Text

Col David Crockett-A new work has recently been published at Cincinnati, entitled " Life and Adventures of Col. David Crockett, of West Tennessee"-written evidently not by Col. C. or with his approbation, but by some speculator on public curiosity, who has collected and strung together all the remarkable feats attributed to the Colonel, with such others as a Munchausen imagination could invent. We have seen a few extracts. exhibiting some humor, but exceedingly vulgar We select the following, because it is free from this objection, and is withal characteristic of the hero of the book

While Col Crockett was at Washington, a young gentleman who had been paying his addresses to his daughter wrote to him requesting his permission though they might be married The reply of the Colonel was in the following laconic style

"WASHINGTON,
Dear Sir-I received your letter. Go ahead
DAVID CROCKETT."
