The New-York Evening Post of Saturday last, says, "a letter yesterday morning from high authority, informs, that the despatches from our agents in Europe, do not warrant the late publication in the Intelligencer, endeavouring to impress upon the publick mind, that our prospect of peace was gloomy. On the contrary, we feel justified in stating that those despatches informed the government, that Mr. Crawford had met Lord Castlereagh--that in the course of the interview, Lord Castlereagh satisfactorily explained the cause of the apparent delay on the part of his government to appoint Commissioners to meet ours at Gottenburg, and lamented the place fixed had not been at London or the Hague, as it would facilitate the proposed negotiation."
