"On Wednesday last. Gen. WILLIAMS was met at Cambridge, on his return from Congress, by Capt. Harvey's troop of light-horse, in complete uniform, and from thence escorted to Salem, where his fellow townsmen received him with a most cordial welcome. He was complimented with 16 guns by the artillery, and conducted to his seat, amidst the heartfelt applauses of a concourse of his fellow citizens, collected together on this joyful occasion. Every countenance was impressed with a grateful sense of his exertions in defence of our constitution, our national faith and honour, and that inestimable blessing, domestic tranquility."
