Sir Thomas Geraldino, the Spanish Minister at the Court of Great-Britain, having learn'd, that an English Ship arrived from America, had on Board, among other Things, 18 Chests of Silver belonging to the South-Sea Company, and 45 on Account of some Spanish Merchants, who had directed them to an English Merchant at London, in order, as it is said, to defraud the King of Spain of the Indulto that was due thereon. this Silver having only paid 2 1 half per Cent Freight from the Havanna ; the above Minister has made very heavy Complaints of this Affair, declaring it to be contrary to the Asiento Treaty : He has likewise made Representations to the British Court against the sending Mr. Oglethorpe again, with Forces under his Command, to Georgia. His demanding that Colony, &c. on the Behalf of the Crown of Spain, and his making Complaints and Representations at the Court of Great-Britain on every the slightest Occasion, is thought here to be a sort of Chicanery, and directed by the Court of Spain to be done with no other View, than to evade making the British Merchants Satisfaction for the Injuries done them by the Spanish Guard du Costa's. to which that Court has been closely press'd.
