The opening session of the National Conference on Jobs and the Economic Crisis will be held in Cleveland, September 17 and 18, according to an announcement by Hugh DeLacy, conference secretary and director of the Progressive Party of Ohio. Principal speakers will be Henry Wallace, Vito Marcantonio, New York congressman and radio commentator Arthur Gaeth.
The fiery American Labor Party congressman Marcantonio will be speaking for the first time in Cleveland. He will address the conference on "The Default of the 81st Congress." Marcantonio is his party's candidate for Mayor in New York City.
"The morning's major address," DeLacy said, "will be Henry Wallace's discussion of the economic outlook."
"The purpose of the conference," DeLacy explained, "is to consider the economic storm signals hovering America, to adopt a program to head off depression, and to spark a nation-wide fight for action on measures approved in closing Sunday sessions."
Conference co-chairmen are William Smith, International vice-President of the Farm Equipment Workers, CIO, and Fred Stover, President, Farmers' Union of Iowa.
All sessions of the two day conference will be held in the Cleveland Public Auditorium.
